In early 2023, a national vote to enshrine Indigenous peoples voice in the constitution is slated for later that year. A dynamic Indigenous youth group, drawn from across regional Australia begin preparations to become referendum campaigners back in their own communities. Facilitated by an Indigenous lead, grassroots organisation based in Cairns - called “Deadly Inspiring Youth Doing Good” (DIYDG) the young Indigenous participants begin their preparation by embarking on a road-trip to honour a land rights legacy created by Vincent Lingiari in 1966.
This hypnotic and intimate road journey across the Australian landscape presents these future campaigners in the context of a centuries long fight for Indigenous rights and shines a light on the indomitable spirit of hope and desire to lead their communities to a better future. Buoyed by the imminent vote on First Nations recognition, the group voyage through ephemeral Australian landscape in the microcosm of a minibus, sharing the rich, multilayered stories of their ancestors as they dream up a hopeful new vision for Australia
6 out of 10 Australians voted “No” in the Referendum for Indigenous People to have a Voice to Parliament.
History tells us that this referendum is an option between two different futures. Consider for a moment either outcome - debate about what the voice should look like OR a dissection of why it didn’t succeed. Both outcomes require more reconciliation.
This is the story about the Voice to parliament that never made it to the news. It is what democracy looks like, and means, to Indigenous youth. Leading up to the next election, a much greater need, capacity and desire for healthy longitudinal debate around reconciliation will occur.
Our film presents those with most at stake in this struggle and we feel it’s their voice that Australia we will be seeking post referendum. Ultimately, it’s the voices of the Emerging that will shape the vision of what comes next. impact in the community.

Everyone knows that children do their best when they are supported, nurtured and loved. But right now across Australia, children as young as 10 can be arrested by police, charged with an offence, hauled before a court and locked away in a prison.
Wiyi Yani U Thangani—meaning women’s voices in Bunuba language—is a multiyear systemic change project set out to capture and respond to the strengths, aspirations and challenges of First Nations women and girls.
The vision is for First Nations gender justice and equality in Australia. We elevate the voices of First Nations women and girls, knowing that they hold the solutions to drive transformative change.
When we listen to people, and make decisions based on their local knowledge, we get better outcomes. Indigenous communities face serious and unique challenges. There are real gaps between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians in life expectancy, infant mortality, health, housing, education and employment.
