DIYDG's digital statement of commitment

 Deadly Inspiring Youth Doing Good Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Corporation is committed to building and sustaining safe digital environment for all members. 

Rules and expectations:


1. Be kind and courteous

We're all in this together to create a welcoming environment. Let's treat everyone with respect. Healthy debates are natural, but kindness is required. 


2. No hate speech or bullying

Make sure everyone feels safe. Bullying of any kind isn't allowed, and degrading comments about things like race, religion, culture, sexual orientation, gender or identity will not be tolerated.


3. No Spam

Give more than you take to this group. Spam and irrelevant links aren't allowed.


4. Respect Everyone's Privacy

Being part of this group requires mutual trust. Authentic, expressive discussions make groups great, but may also be sensitive and private. What's shared in the group should stay in the group.


5. Inappropriate content

It's awesome to have fun and connect, this a space for safe, drug and alcohol free, pro-social activities to be shared. Keep it clean, keep it safe. Invites to external personal events are not permitted.

Statement of Standards

The statement of standards provides a way to measure quality of care and forms a basis for assessing whether a care environment is acceptable. 

The standards are interpreted with consideration to the needs of each individual child.  The Act outlines the following standards:


  • The Chief Executive (Director-General) must take reasonable steps to ensure a child placed in care under section 82 is cared for in a way that meets the following standards (the statement of standards):
  • the child's dignity and rights will be respected at all times
  • the child's needs for physical care will be met, including adequate food, clothing and shelter   
  • the child will receive emotional care that allows him or her to experience being cared about and valued and that
  • contributes to the child's positive self-regard
  • the child's needs relating to his or her culture and ethnic grouping will be met
  • the child's material needs relating to his or her schooling, physical and mental stimulation, recreation and general living will be met
  • the child will receive education,
  • training or employment opportunities relevant to the child's age and ability
  • the child will receive positive guidance when necessary to help him or her to change inappropriate behaviour
  • the child will receive dental, medical and therapeutic services necessary to meet his or her needs
  • the child will be given the opportunity to participate in positive social and recreational activities appropriate to his or her developmental level and age
  • the child will be encouraged to maintain family and other significant personal relationships
  • if the child has a disability - the child will receive care and help appropriate to the child's special needs
  •  For subsection (1)(g), techniques for managing the child's behaviour must not include corporal punishment or punishment that humiliates, frightens or threatens the child in a way that is likely to cause emotional harm.
  • For subsection (1)(j), if the chief executive has custody or guardianship of the child, the child's carer must act in accordance with the chief executive's reasonable directions.
  • The application of the standards to the child's care must take into account what is reasonable having regard to:
  • the length of time the child is in the care of the carer or care service
  • the child's age and development.

  • You have the right to use our service if it matches your need and what we are funded to provide.
  • You have the right to privacy and confidentiality, and we will explain to you what this means when you use our service.
  • You have the right to be treated with respect.
  • You have the right to feel safe – emotionally, physically, spiritually, and mentally.
  • You have the right to have your cultural needs respected.
  • You have the right to receive the same quality and level of service regardless of your ethnicity, ability, age, gender, religion, or sexuality.
  • You have the right to expect our service to meet health and safety requirements.
  • You have the right to expect that we will work in partnership with you to identify your needs and develop a plan with you and other agencies to meet your needs.
  • You have the right to expect that we will provide you with a range of information so you can make informed decisions about your needs and goals.
  • You have the right to expect that we will represent your needs and advocate on your behalf.
  • You have the right to make decisions about things that affect your life and goals.
  • You have the right to make a complaint and we will respond in a confidential, respectful, and timely way.
  • You have the right to have a support person to help you to use our service and advocate on your behalf.
  • You have the right to be valued, believed, and listened to.
  • You have the right to expect that we will tell you about your rights and responsibilities when you receive a service from us.
  • Child Protection Placement Services, Child Protection Support Services, and Families be provided with information about the Department of Child Safety, Youth and Women’s Time in Care Information Access Service.
